Attested in the 14th century, the Râșnov Fortress is located on the site of an ancient wooden fortification built in the beginning of the 13th century by Teutonic Knights on the site of a former Dacian fortress. One of the most well-known, most visited and well-preserved fortified ensembles in the area, the fortress use to control through its strategic position the access to Transylvania from Râşnoavei Valley, serving as a military surveillance point on Bran road.
